INSIDE THE CLINIC

Inside the clinic

Our Clinic

My main concern as a Trichologist is to ensure that my clients feel relaxed, listened to, and supported throughout their treatment journey. I strive to create a comfortable and welcoming environment where my clients can share their unique stories and concerns.

I understand that every individual has their own set of needs, and that is why I tailor my treatments to suit each client's specific requirements. I work at a pace that is comfortable for my clients and help them navigate their recovery journey at their own speed.

As a Registered qualified Trichologist and a member of The Association of Registered Trichologists (ART), I follow a strict code of conduct, ensuring that I provide ethical and professional services to my clients.

Apart from my Trichology qualification, I have also studied under some of the UK's leading professors in areas such as Haematology, Nutrition, Cell Biology, and Microscopy in relation to the hair and scalp. Additionally, I am qualified in the skill of hair replacement systems for both men and women.

Mental Health Awareness

I have also attended courses on Mental Health awareness, recognizing the impact that hair and scalp confidence can have on an individual's overall well-being. I believe that through my expertise, empathy, and dedication, I can help my clients leave feeling better and more confident than when they arrived. Remember, your journey towards recovery starts with you, and I am here to support you every step of the way.

What brings people to the clinic?

There are many different reasons people choose to come along to clinic, for example:-

  • People have exhausted all other avenues
  • Lack of empathy and understanding by their GP or Dermatologist
  • Some clients are made to feel embarrassed by other professionals for ‘just’ hair loss
  • Lack of information and diagnosis
  • Some people do not want to burden their GP
  • For some understanding and knowledge on what is happening to them and why

The main goal for the clinic is for people to feel listened too, understood and relaxed. Consultation can last anywhere from 45 minutes to 1 hour although plenty of time is set out to collect all the information needed for a thorough investigation and diagnosis if time was to run over.

"Countless times people have come along to my clinic upset with how they have been received by other professional for ‘Just’ hair loss! They have been made to feel bad for wasting their time, or they been told that they don’t look like they have hair loss… not all hair loss is completely visible.

Some have been given a wrong diagnosis with no explanation of the diagnosis and with no help or treatment offered. It is for these reasons I like to spend plenty of time with my clients and answer all of their questions and worries."

What gets taken into consideration?

Some of the subjects that will be covered

are : -

  • General health/Medical conditions
  • Medications
  • Life style
  • Nutrition
  • Stress/anxiety levels
  • Menstrual cycle
  • Family history
  • Blood reports analysed

A family member or a friend are always welcome to attend the clinic with you, they may even have questions of their own and they may also remember points that you may not although at times some questions can be private therefore this should be taken into consideration if someone is attending with you.

What can I expect?

 What to expect...

  • On arrival you will have a couple of simple forms to fill out
  • The consultation process will start to obtain some of the answers needed to help reach your diagnosis
  • Any blood reports that you bring along with you will be reviewed
  • A physical examination will take place of your hair, scalp and follicle using a digital derma scope and compound microscope if required
  • Margaret will explain to you what she is seeing with the digital scope
  • Margaret’s thought on diagnosis will be given
  • Treatment options will be explained and a treatment plan will be made

During your consultation there will be a lot of information provided but do not worry as a full report will be provided via email approximately 1 week after your consultation.

"Using the digital Derma Scope really is a key point in the examination process. It can give us many answers and build confidence that your concerns are not as advanced as you thought, as we can see images with the scope that you cannot see with the naked eye. The scope allows us to see the quality of the hair structure the follicle is producing, if there is evidence of miniaturisation, evidence of empty follicles, evidence of scarring and scalp health."

What to do and what to bring.

  • Please do not use camouflage products, oil, dry shampoo, a lot of hairspray or hair products on day of your consultation
  • Please do not colour your hair the week of your appointment as can stain the scalp
  • Please wash your hair 24 hours prior to your consultation
  • You can bring along a list of medications and supplements you are taking
  • Blood reports from up to 1 year
  • Any reports from other professionals

   Children and Teenagers

“I see children in my clinic from time to time although unfortunately since the pandemic I have noticed an increase in the number of adolescents, especially teen years, that are suffering from hair loss and scalp concerns. This is such a difficult age to cope with hair loss, my heart goes out to them”

Unfortunately, hair loss can affect all ages and sadly we do see children in the clinic. Children can suffer hair and scalp concerns just like adults and for the same contributing factors.

Treating hair loss and scalp concerns can me more challenging with children and teens due to the reluctancy of some GP’s to carrying out blood investigations and unfortunately private company’s only offer their services to individuals over 18. Many treatments also carry age restrictions therefore we have to follow a more natural holistic approach.

At MJS Trichology we completely understand that this is a challenging time not only for the child but also for their loved ones. A sensitive relaxed approach is taken to make the child feel as comfortable as possible and also to take away any fear they may have about their visit to the clinic.

Margaret has experience with helping children with hair loss/scalp concerns and as a mother herself understands how this can be a challenging time for all.

"The onset of Male Pattern Hair Loss can start as early as puberty in some individuals"
